Osteen writes in an uplifting tone to share the message that God wants more for us and from us than we usually think we are capable of handling. Each chapter ends with positive encouagement that reads a bit like positive affirmations. The recommendations are to be more aware and take control of our attitude and our outlook, to reframe into a positive mindset and shed negativity amd to stop doubting ourselves. This is an encouraging and positive book. I can’t find anything to criticize, it’s a feel-good book. Rating 5 stars = Love It.
• Exceptional You! by Pastor Victoria Osteen is an outstanding book, filled with hope, encouragement, and practical wisdom. I found it captivating, easy to read, and hard to put down. Victoria writes in a casual style that is easy to follow along with and understand. I could almost hear her speaking the words to me as I worked my way through the chapters.
  
  I love the way she takes everyday life examples and uses them to demonstrate deeper spiritual truths that empower the reader to move forward into the identity God has called them to walk in. I found many parts of the book to be transparent and revealing into the person and character of the author. It’s almost as if she becomes a trusted friend within the pages.
  
  The book is divided into 7 core principles, and each principle has 2 main points (chapters) that she discusses and teaches from in greater detail. At the end of each chapter, she includes powerful “Exceptional You Thoughts” that the reader can use daily to influence their journey into the exceptional.
  
  I have been using the “Exceptional You Thoughts” regularly and see them as seeds of truth that are being planted in my spirit. When I speak them out each day, it is as if those seeds are being watered by my audible voice, and change is beginning to happen. The seeds are breaking through and showing evidence of transformation in my spirit.
  
  There are so many solid truths in this book that it is difficult to pick just one to share, but I think I most enjoyed the acorn story and the red umbrella story … they teach powerful principles that speak to me personally. The acorn is just a small thing—but when nurtured, cultivated and cared for, it produces a great big oak tree that has an expansive reach (or influence) that increases over time. And that red umbrella on the beach—it reminds us to check in with God on a regular basis so that we can stay in alignment with him and not veer too far off course.
  
  I can’t say enough about this book. I love it. It is transformational, powerful, life-giving, and empowering. I think everyone should get a copy for yourself and a friend. Read it and share it with others. It’s that good.
• All I can say is, wow! This book is the perfect marriage of a spiritual cheerleader and a motivational speaker on speed dial. Victoria does an amazing job of encouraging the reader of their worth in Christ. She has a deep desire for the reader to understand just how skilled and exceptional they are. She gives examples from Scripture of people who did not believe in who they were created to be, but spent time with God and He showed them what they were going to be. One of my favorite quotes is “If we are going to accomplish our dreams and reach the fullness of our destiny, we must press past our excuses and put aside the no, grab hold of our yes, and take bold steps of faith“-pg 19. I recommend this book to any woman who has any doubt in their calling or the abilities and gifts that God has blessed them with.
• I absolutely loved this book! I found it very encouraging and increasing my confidence and faith in God's love. Victoria writes in a way that is easy to understand and you feel like you are sitting down having a conversation with her. This book is for anyone wanting to increase their self-confidence and think better thoughts. Whether you are a new believer or you have been one for a while, this book will help reframe your attitude about God and life in general and also infuse strength into you to reach your destination with a heart of gratitude while living life to the fullest.
• OMGosh!!! I love this book. Put your crown on and "take hold of God's strength" and get to shaking some bridges. You had me at bridge shaking!
• I love Joel but this is my first encounter with Victoria.
  I didn't know much about her, or what to expect, and was pleasantly surprised.
  She is as wonderful a storyteller & as thought provoking as her husband.
  
  I feel I must share, in case you make my same assumption, this is not geared towards women.
  It is for everyone.
  It's not preachy. More a pep talk to remember to appreciate yourself.
  
  This is a short book, just over 200 pages, and easy to fly through.
  It has been a source of reference and quick inspiration, that I have come back to.
  
  Reminds me of one of my favorites 'Jesus Calling'.
  I can open to a random page and, find the words I need at the time.
  That, for me, shows the book is blessed & God is speaking to us through the author.
  
  Whether you are someone who reads a book from cover to cover.
  Or, likes to hop around to Chapters of interest, 'Exceptional You' evokes a smile from inside.

  The story Past Storm and Fire by Christy Nicholas is a wonderful book to read. It drew me in from the very beginning and I found myself not wanting to put it down until I had finished the last page. I loved reading about the character of Val. She is a woman who is responsible. Her life is not going the way that she had hoped and is inspired to writing a romance novel set in Iceland. The novel opens up a world which she can escape to. What will happen when the lines between her writing and her real life begin to cross? What does the future hold for Val? Read this book to find out. I also loved reading about the character of Vigdis that Val creates. She is a hard-worker, independent, and strong. I liked that so much detail is given to the story. I felt like I was right there with the characters. This is also a book that is emotional and mine went up and down. I grew to care about Val and Vigdis with each chapter that I read. Don’t miss out on a journey that had me thinking about it even after I had finished the book. Recommended reading.
• I've read and enjoyed this author's "Druid's Brooch" series so I blindly went into PAST STORM AND FIRE based on her name alone. I wasn't sure that I could write anything about this book without writing spoilers so I went back and looked at the blurb. OHHHH NOW it makes sense.
  
  This book is told in past and present tense, dream and reality, and has a story within the story. It's a complex tale that at times I had a hard time following. The historical portion of the story appears to have been well researched. There are certain situations that are written in the story that serve as background for why the protagonist is the way she is. At times I liked her and other times I felt like she was just so passive in what she wanted. Then I would warm up to her again.
  
  There is a common arch that ties all of the parts of the story together. It took me a little bit to get into the rhythm of it because I wasn't quite sure what was going on. It has a very clear beginning, middle, and end and while it is not my favorite by this author, I did find it enjoyable.
• Past Storm and Fire by Christy Nicholas was an original, engaging detail read, that had me hooked.
  
  Not my first read by this author, so I new going in that this book was going to be something otherworldly and fantastical. And I was not disappointed. This book was hooking right from the start. Opening with that storm, it not only set the stage for the mood, but it showed us right away the cracks in Val's and Karl's marriage. It was a heavy hitter from there, and once that fantasy plot got underway, there was no turning back for me. I loved the play on fact or fiction, and the way the author had Val escape into her writing. It was a unique twist and it made this story stand out.
  
  Overall this book gets my super high recommendation and my stamp of approval.

  Past Storm and Fire was a fantastic and exciting 5 star read by Christy Nicholas and I story that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. The level of detail that the author put into the story was just amazing; I was completely captivated by what I was reading. I could tell that the author really had taken the time to research what she writing about and this made a he difference to me as a reader. I have read quite a few books by this author now and I have to say I think that this one is definitely my favourite so far, it was just one of those stories that you find really difficult to put down. I loved the main character Val, she was such a strong person and I really felt like I was living her journey with her.
  A fantastic 5 star read that I highly recommend!
• Past Storm and Fire is a story by Christy Nicholas and I am sure that it will great like her other stories. I was not disappointed. Nicholas writes in a way that grips you in a way like you are in a spider web and do not even realize it. The way she can start the story with Hurricane Andrew and take you back to historic Iceland is mind blowing. Val is the main female character and she is living with Karl, her husband but is she truly happy. She has visions that take her to Iceland. There is another story that is brought to her in visions. As the story grows so does the love I have for Val and Vigdis. Who is Vigdis and what is his role? You will have to read this story and fall in love yourself.
• I found this book enjoyable and hard to put down as it also made me feel as if I was part of the story. It is well written and the author’s attention to detail especially the historical parts are great. Val’s life seems to be falling apart between the damage from the hurricane to her husband’s deceit. Inspired, she finds herself writing a novel based in Iceland. What will happen when her present and past collide? Strong characters that are connectable. I highly recommend this book
• Past Storm and Fire by Christy Nicholas ​is original and engaging and the author wove real life into fantasy as she wrote this story. It is a quick and fluid read that was intriguing and definitely takes you on a journey to remember. The fantasy, the mystery and the past and present collide. Captivating and refreshing is how I would describe this tale that shows a woman who is unsure of her marriage who finds herself immersed in a world that is not known if it is real or not.
• Another fantastic book from Nicholas! She is a master storyteller and few can match her ability to create new worlds that leave you breathless with their newness yet they are still relatable. I loved this book from start to finish and found myself transported once again to the world created. Fantastic book.

• I grew up on the Beastie Boys first album, License to Ill. It was just great! I knew every song front to back. Having the large folded album cover to reveal a crashed plane tells you a little something about what you will get. I was young and so my comparison to other music was not much. But I knew I liked it! As a kid, it was more about learning the lyrics and seeing if you can keep up singing along. It was quite fun!
  
  As I matured, so did their music. Later we got So Wha'cha Want, Sabotage, and Intergalactic as their highlights. They only produced eight albums, but each one was surprisingly unique from the one prior. But, for me, I rarely follow musicians personal lives and dont pay attention to much else besides when I either buy an album or its on the radio.
  
  As with the Beastie Boys, while I did not buy every one of their albums or follow their personal lives beyond their music, I was surprised when I heard of Adam Yauch's death. Seemed so soon. And the opening story by Mike D reminded me of this fact and how impactful he was on their lives, personally and musically. Most of the book are reminiscing by the remaining two Beastie Boys, Mike D and Ad-Rock, telling their stories through each album and other incidents that may or may not have been controversial at the time. Some of the photos in the book I can even recall from back in my youth, seeing them in music mags or newspapers, wondering what exactly what happened.
  
  The book is filled evenly with pictures and stories. At 550 pages, you are getting the full gamut here, and from the horses mouth. The book is well designed that is funny, heartfelt and inspiring. It is less of a biography of a band and more of a culture. Some are anecdotal. Some are things strictly from their memory. Other things culled from events known to everyone. All within the changing climate of the early 80's with rap on the rise and punk rock on the decline. And these guys are the spawn of that zeitgeist. Overall, this is a perfect book and to revisit Beastie Boys in this way gives them substance as both musicians and creative and intelligent people.
• Buy, steal, beg for, or borrow this book. I'm not going to get into my level of Beastie Boys fandom, because that belongs to me, and it be impossible to explain the importance and impact of the Beastie Boys have had on my life. They've been the soundtrack to my life, the good and the bad. Some of my fondest memories involve going to see them live, or having Paul's Boutique on in the background while something memorable is happening. It's difficult to put into words, though. Seriously. I am who I am (a divorced 44 year old dad of two) today because of them. One of the standout memories of my childhood was, at 11 years old, taking the bus to the next town over, and going to the record store. Inside, they were playing 'Licensed to Ill', and I'll never forget that moment. It changed my life.
  
  From what I've read so far, AdRock's chapter on cassette tapes really hit home. It's....perfect. Nostalgia personified, and he absolutely nails it - how ridiculous a method it was to record/playback music, etc., yet how critical cassette tapes were to us as kids, and how their existence and meaning shaped who we became today.
  
  To AdRock and Mike D. A million thank-yous! I know you understand the impact you've had on multiple generations, around the world, and that's something that will live forever. Even now, 30+ years later, me and my kids belt out Beastie Boys tunes while driving around, and it's so much fun! It's truly something special, the impact and importance the Beasties had, and still have, and all I can say is THANK YOU! For those reading, go get this book. Sure, it weighs over 3 lbs. and as thick as a college textbook (or Bible, even), but man, is it essential reading.

  Hefty is a perfect word for this book. More Chicago style pizza than NY.
  
  I’ve not read the book except a few pages I’ve skimmed since I got it a couple of hours ago. So my review is on the Book structure and printing…and unfortunately ’s declining care of products it sells.
  
  The Book. As said above it’s huge. Not tall or wide but thick. “Ah, like a thick-ass book that's filled with wack rhymes”. Unlike most biographies where there are about 20 pages in the middle devoted to photos, this book has the photos and illustrations are throughout it’s entirety. It resembles a Fanzine more than a book. Plus there are tons of little extras throughout that only Beastie Fans will appreciate.
  
  The binding is quality and seems like it will stand the test of time. From what I can tell it has smyth sewn binding which make it lay fairly flat when opened on a table. This is nice because you can actually see the middle parts of this gigantic book.
  
  The paper and printing are quality as well. The paper is a non-coated stock (matte) which allows the ink to absorb into the page creating rich deep colors in the photographs. Plus the paper has a nice nostalgic smell. There are a few glossy sections but only used when appropriate, or to break up the pace of the book.
  
  Now onto the not so Prime deal I got on this book. Note This is just me being picky. But needs to be noted in case others got the same damage on their book and paid more for it. I pre-ordered my book months ago for $35 through Prime. I now see it’s $30. “Knucklehead deli tried to gyp me on the price” I get it, prices change blah blah blah. I wouldn’t be so upset except that although my book was on my doorstep at 8am this morning which was sofa king Rad to wake up to, it is damage. The top right corner all the way through the pages to the back cover (see photos). I’ve tried to mend it myself the best I can. I’ll probably keep because it’s a waste of natural resources to ship this back because of a bent corner. I know I sound like I’m being silly about this but when it’s delivered damaged (no way this happened in shipping, the box was in perfect shape) and then you see that you could have waited and saved $5…it just gets under the skin.
  
  Anyways, if you love the Beasties and have been with them since the 80s like me, or even if you are a newer fan of this millennium…get this book. R.I.P. MCA.
• I've been a huge Beastie Boys fan for 25 years. They have a diverse taste in music they're smart and extremely funny and intelligent. The book is a great read with a lot of Great stories.

• I’ve been looking for an activity book to entertain my grandson before Easter. This looked like what I wanted. I’m very pleased now that I see the actual book. It says ages 4-8, my grandson is 4. I’m pretty sure he’s going to love it. There are easy coloring pages, dot to dots, all the way up to word searches that hopefully will be a bit challenging for him. He’s always one to surprise me with catching on! I was relieved to find it is also NOT cheap quality paper. It has nice bright white sheets that aren’t going to rip easily. • Fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi was a huge deal back in the 1980s and 1990s. I say that very confidently because as a kid growing up back then I remember his name being mentioned frequently when Joan Rivers would ask on the red carpet "Who are you wearing?". And while he might not be dressing the A-List crowd as much anymore, he is still involved in the fashion world and he also has found a place in front of the camera on various tv shows. Definitely fair to say there is a lot of creativity flowing through his veins.
  
  I'll admit, I mainly wanted to read this book to hear some good fashion world stories. I was impressed he was able to make Anna Wintour sound almost human rather than the cold image she normally presents to the rest of the world. And I thought it was really cool he not only got to meet his idol, Liza Minnelli, but also strike up a friendship. I found it fascinating that seemingly overnight celebrities just started expecting to get free clothes from designers to wear to events and how that is the norm now. For sure my favorite parts of the book involved just random stuff about celebrities.
  
  I did find myself bored from time to time with the first half of the book. His childhood growing up as a gay male in a Syrian Jewish family was certainly fascinating but there were parts that dragged on a bit. I did enjoy the parts of the book that explored his relationship with his parents and his siblings and their families. His relationship with his mother in particular sounds supportive in some sense but also complicated. I'm glad he included what it was like living in New York at the height of the AIDS epidemic. It seems like too many people have long forgotten what a scary and difficult time period that was so it was good to hear his perspective.
  
  I read an advance copy of this book and was disappointed that the Golden Globes groping incident with Scarlett Johansson was not mentioned. It got big press back in 2006 and it seems like such a glaring omission to not have some sort of explanation in the book especially living in the #metoo era. I really do hope his thoughts on the matter find their way into this book before it's published.
  
  Overall, I do recommend this book not only if you are a fan of his but also he really is a unique individual so if you like memoirs this is a pretty safe bet.

• I'm a long-time reader of memoirs and have found there are two types. One is a "slash-and-burn tell-all"; mean, venal, and usually intended to get back at someone in the memoir-writer's life. These books tend to make for ultimately tiresome reading as the rancor gets in the way of any kind of balanced portrayals. The other kind of memoir is a more gentle, less vicious look at the memoir-writer; his life and the influences of others on that life. Isaac Mizrahi's book, "I.M. A Memoir" is definitely the second type.
  
  Isaac Mizrahi is a noted clothing designer who has dazzled the fashion world with his work. But like many designers, he is a man of many talents. He is also a man with many life influences, including his Syrian-Jewish upbringing, his struggle with his weight, his homosexuality and how he's dealt with it, a life-time of depression he's been able to keep at bay, and his seeming intense enjoyment of his life and work. In his book he writes about his family - parents and two older sisters - and the Brooklyn Syrian-Jewish community he grew up in. His mother was his main fashion influence, encouraged him to attend the Preforming Arts High School, and has been a huge booster of his career. His father's acceptance was somewhat more difficult; Isaac's early "differences" from the other children and his artiness made the father-son connection tenuous. When Isaac's father told him he loved him right before his death, it was an important moment in his life.
  
  Mizrahi's book highlights his work and how his designs have developed over the years. His business life was often his personal life and Mizrahi has some great anecdotes of the people important in his life. His book is surprisingly kind to others while honest about himself. Of course, readers must trust the memoir-writer's truthfulness. And not only truthfulness, but trust in the writer's appraisal of his own nature. Isaac Mizrahi seems like a perceptive and honest writer and his book is quite enjoyable reading.
  
  I'm only awarding the book four stars instead of five because it lacks any pictures of Isaac Mizrahi and the people in his life and the designs he's made. I came across an article on-line from the Daily Mail which reviewed the book and published quite a few pictures that should have been in the book.
• I knew I would love this book, because I already love watching Isaac on QVC, especially with Shawn K. when she has to ask him the definition of an unfamiliar word he used when he was speaking to her. It is always good to learn new words - it makes us better Scrabble players. I can tell that Isaac inherited his love of the English language from his mother. I just love reading about her, knowing how she positively shaped his life. And the painful parts of his life's story make him relatable to the rest of us, even though he is a celebrity. But you will laugh out loud on every page that you read. Like I said in the review title, I knew it would be a wonderful read.
• I.M. is a most beautiful book. What rises to the surface is Isaac's enduring creativity, curiosity and fortitude. There was a comment by someone that they wanted the book to have more fashion stories. There are lots of them. But the point of the book to me was how Isaac used little daily pleasures in life like food and taxis and dogs to get through all the struggles of his challenging career. You will not be disappointed!
• I loved reading this boos so much so i hated to see it end. I have been a fan of Issac s for years loving him on QVC .My closet overflows with his clothes and shoes. I thought the book was both sad and at times funny. I loved reading about his relationship with his mother and happy she is still alive and enjoying his success. Issac was very open about his childhood and his life style. As i am in my senior years i loved reading about the great dept stores that no longer are in business and all the different styles of years ago. Now when i see Issac on TV i will have a much better understandng of who he is.
